The Chiang Mai District Chief, accompanied by the Security Deputy District Officer, traveled to Bangkok to clarify the facts concerning whether Ministry of Interior Deputy Minister 2’s special operations team raiding a local gambling den involved any negligence of duty.
On 21 September 2026 in Chiang Mai, reporters reported that Naruecha Kosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, ordered the Chiang Mai District Chief, the Deputy District Officer in charge of administrative operations, and the Security Deputy District Officer to present facts at the Department today (21 September 2026).
This follows the case where Pol.Phil. Suwanchawee, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior, led a special operations team from the Department of Provincial Administration in the "Prab Xian Nakorn Ping" operation, raiding two gambling dens in downtown Chiang Mai and arresting over 100 gamblers and related individuals on the night of 18 September.
Reporters checking at the Chiang Mai District Office found that the District Chief and involved Deputy District Officers had already traveled to the Department of Provincial Administration to clarify the facts, while officers and volunteer defense forces provided no information regarding the gambling den arrests.
This order from the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration is the first instance in Chiang Mai where district-level officials have been summoned to explain a gambling den case. Although the raids were conducted by the Department, there is a possibility of disciplinary and criminal penalties if it is found that local administrative officers neglected their duties in this matter.
