The suspect claimed he was hired to transport methamphetamine from Chiang Rai Province to a destination in the central region.
On 22 September 2026 in Lampang Province, reporters learned that on the afternoon of 21 September, Border Patrol Police Company 327, together with Wang Nuea Police Station and the Wang Nuea District administrative officers, inspected the scene of a pickup truck involved in drug trafficking that had overturned on the Wang Nuea–Phayao Highway in Wang Nuea District, Lampang. Drug suppression officers and Border Patrol Police had been pursuing the suspicious vehicle since Chiang Rai Province before it lost control and overturned at the location.
A search found approximately 3,200,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in 15 fruit boxes in the pickup truck bed. Authorities detained 35-year-old suspect Supasan.
On the evening of 20 September 2026, the arrest team received a tip from an informant about a planned smuggling of drugs from Chiang Rai into the country's interior. The suspect was expected to use a white Mitsubishi pickup truck with Bangkok license plates, traveling through Wang Nuea District, Lampang Province, heading toward Phayao Province. Drug suppression and Border Patrol Police tracked the suspicious vehicle based on this information, but the driver became alert and attempted to escape. The vehicle then lost control, went off the curve, and overturned at the location. Authorities inspected the scene and found about 15 fruit boxes containing methamphetamine pills in the truck bed, totaling approximately 3.2 million pills.
Authorities seized the drugs and vehicle as evidence and detained Supasan for further interrogation and investigation. The suspect claimed he was only hired to transport methamphetamine from Chiang Rai to the central region.
Initially, the suspect was charged with trafficking a Category 1 narcotic drug (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute, violating the law, an act for commercial purposes that leads to widespread use among the public and impacts national security and public safety.
This operation was a coordinated effort between Border Patrol Police Company 327, Border Patrol Police Division 32, Border Patrol Police Region 3 Headquarters, Wang Nuea Police Station, and Wang Nuea District administrative officers in Lampang Province.
