In Nakhon Si Thammarat, a mentally ill man went berserk holding a knife and broke into another person's home, intending to sexually assault the neighbor’s wife. The husband, unable to fight back, grabbed a gun and shot the attacker, who was critically wounded before dying in the hospital.
At 14:30 on 22 Sep 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kamphonphat Praison, Investigation Officer of Phipun Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat, received a report of a mentally ill man acting violently with a knife attempting to assault a neighbor’s wife. The woman’s husband shot the attacker, critically wounding him, at a home in Phipun District. Upon receiving the report, Lt. Col. Kamphonphat, along with Police Colonel Luechai Thongsin, Chief of Police, Deputy Chief Investigator Police Lieutenant Colonel Kiattipong Samesukree, the investigative team, and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tung Phipun Foundation, went to the scene to investigate.
At the scene, the injured man was found wounded. He was identified as Mr. Suksan, 42, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat. He had a gunshot wound from a .38 caliber pistol to the abdomen and was in critical condition. However, he remained violent and agitated throughout. Rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tung Phipun Foundation struggled to restrain him on a stretcher before rushing him to the hospital. Mr. Suksan later died.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Mr. Apichat, 42, the homeowner where the incident occurred, was holding a .38 caliber handgun and was waiting to surrender to authorities. He was taken into custody for questioning and legal proceedings at Phipun Police Station.
Mr. Apichat, the suspect, stated that before the incident, while he and his 35-year-old wife were at home, Mr. Suksan, who suffered from mental illness, became violent and agitated. Mr. Suksan entered their home wielding a sharp knife and attempted to sexually assault Apichat's wife. Apichat tried to intervene, but Mr. Suksan continued his violent behavior and threatened both him and his wife. Apichat then decided to shoot Mr. Suksan once in the abdomen with his .38 caliber handgun, causing Mr. Suksan to collapse but remain agitated. Apichat then called the police and rescue workers to help restrain and take Mr. Suksan to Phipun Hospital. After the incident, Apichat waited to surrender to the police.
Initially, authorities will detain Mr. Apichat and charge him with homicide, proceeding with legal action accordingly.
