Investigators from Wat Phraya Krai Police Station arrested a 66-year-old man who claimed to be a consultant to the Metropolitan Police Chief, deceiving victims by promising to get their relatives into the police force. Victims lost 93,000 baht. Authorities vow to take full legal action.
At 13:30 on 22 Sep 2023 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakrapong Pitakkornsakul, investigation chief of Wat Phraya Krai Police Station, together with the investigative team, arrested Mr. Sangiam Jiamcharoen, 66, under arrest warrant number 1196/2566 dated 1 Sep 2023, on charges of fraud, forgery of official documents, using forged official documents, and counterfeiting or imitating official insignia. Evidence seized included a white police uniform, insignia, and a business card claiming to be a consultant to the Metropolitan Police Headquarters. The arrest took place on a canal-side road in Khlong Takot Subdistrict, Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province.
This case began when the victim, Mr. Thanakorn Wisetphakdi, who had known Mr. Sangiam as a fellow amateur radio enthusiast since 1991, was approached by Sangiam who claimed to have connections with senior officials and the Metropolitan Police Chief. Sangiam promised he could secure a police job for Thanakorn's daughter. Sangiam falsely claimed to be a consultant to the Metropolitan Police Chief and provided documents bearing the Metropolitan Police Headquarters seal. He also claimed to have chatted with the police chief, stating that various processing fees would be required.
Thanakorn transferred money to Sangiam's bank account multiple times, totaling 93,500 baht.
Later, Thanakorn verified whether Sangiam was truly a consultant as claimed. Upon discovering the claim was false, he filed a complaint against Sangiam, committing to pursue the case to its conclusion.
