A tip from a good citizen led Wang Thonglang Police to arrest a Chinese man who overstayed 586 days, carrying a gun and hiding ice meth in front of a hotel, boosting public confidence and advancing the "Wang Thonglang Safe" policy.
At 07:00 on 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Police Colonel Jetsada Yangnok, Chief of Wang Thonglang Police Station, revealed that on 23 Sep 2026 around 16:00, Deputy Superintendent Pawee Manmuang of Wang Thonglang Police, Deputy Superintendent Pornchai Sukcharoen of Immigration Bureau Region 1, Superintendent Jet Yutthayothin, and Superintendent Thianphat Klachai led Wang Thonglang officers in coordination with Immigration Bureau Region 1 to investigate a suspicious man in front of a hotel in Soi Ladprao 122, Intersection 15, Phlabphla Subdistrict, Wang Thonglang District, Bangkok.
This followed a report to the Wang Thonglang radio center from a citizen who spotted a suspicious man resembling a Chinese national sitting in front of the hotel, believed to have previously carried a firearm there, raising safety concerns.
Upon arrival, officers found a 50-year-old Chinese man matching the description who could not produce a passport. He consented to a search, which uncovered a revolver hidden in a black handbag. He was taken for further examination at Wang Thonglang Police Station.
A search of his luggage in his presence revealed ice methamphetamine weighing 4.8 grams inside a metal box, along with drug use equipment. Preliminary urine tests and hospital confirmation found drugs in his system.
Through an interpreter, the suspect admitted buying ice meth from a Chinese friend for 5,000 baht and claimed to have received the firearm from another Chinese friend before returning to his country. Authorities are investigating related individuals.
Travel records showed the man had overstayed his permitted time in Thailand by 586 days.
He was charged with illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or ice) without permission, drug use, and being an alien residing in the kingdom after authorization had expired.
The suspect and evidence were handed over to Wang Thonglang police investigators for prosecution and further legal action.
