Tragedy struck at home when a police officer’s son took out a Glock 19 for inspection. The gun accidentally discharged, shooting his mother in the head, critically injuring her before she died at the hospital.
On 25 Sep 2026, it was reported that at 21:45 on 24 Sep, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sakon Krainara, Investigating Officer at Mueang Phuket Police Station, received a report of a serious gunshot injury inside a residence in Koh Kaew Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. The victim later died at Vachira Phuket Hospital. He, along with Police Colonel Chatree Chukaew, Chief of Mueang Phuket Police Station, and patrol officers accompanied by forensic experts, went to the scene to investigate.
The scene was a one-story townhouse. Inside the bedroom, blood splatter was found on the walls and bed. In a drawer of the dressing table, a Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with a fully loaded magazine was found. Forensic officers inspected it for gunpowder residue. A 9mm cartridge case was found on the floor and collected as evidence. Gunpowder residue was also collected from the hand of Police Sub-Lieutenant Chanthir, as the deceased, Ms. Soratasrasamee, aged 49, was his mother. Chanthir was then taken for further questioning at Mueang Phuket Police Station.
Police Sub-Lieutenant Chanthir stated that while inspecting the government-issued Glock 19 pistol, he pulled back the slide. A 9mm round was stuck in the chamber, causing the gun to discharge accidentally. The bullet struck Ms. Soratasrasamee, his mother, who was in the room, severely injuring her.
He immediately rushed her to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where she later died. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation before formally charging Police Sub-Lieutenant Chanthir according to legal procedures.
