The court acquitted "Samart and his mother" and "Boss Paul" in the case of jointly laundering 2.5 million baht linked to "D-Icon," stating the prosecution's evidence was insufficient to be accepted, making further judgment unnecessary.
In courtroom 913 of the Criminal Court at 10:00 a.m., the court convened to read the verdict in the joint money laundering case number F6/2568, where the Special Case Prosecutor 1 charged Samart Jenchai Chitwanich, former chairman of the Anti-Pyramid Scheme Federation of Thailand and former deputy spokesperson of the Palang Pracharath Party; Wilawan Phutthasamrit, Samart's mother; and Worattanaphon Waratyaworakul, or Boss Paul, former CEO of D-Icon Group Co., Ltd., along with the company itself, as defendants 1-4 for jointly committing money laundering involving 2.5 million baht related to D-Icon Group.
Worattanaphon, or Boss Paul, an official of the Department of Corrections, was brought from Bangkok Remand Prison to hear the verdict today, while Samart and his mother, Wilawan, also attended the hearing.
The court considered that the prosecution’s evidence only established that after the D-Icon case, which involved hundreds of millions in damages, the DSI investigators found links between defendants 1-3 and defendant 1’s partner. All defendants transferred and received money using their own accounts without using others' accounts. The prosecution did not prove that the money came from criminal acts, nor was there concealment, hiding, or aiding others. It could not be proven that the money was obtained from crimes or that the defendants knew it was from illegal sources. The prosecution’s evidence was insufficient to be accepted, so the court found it unnecessary to further judge and acquitted the defendants.
Afterward, Samart posted on his personal Facebook page saying, “Acquitted. Thank you to the judges for delivering justice.”
