At 11:30 a.m. on 25 Sep 2026 GMT+7, at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters, Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), Pol. Maj. Gen. Theeradej Thammasuthi, MPB Deputy Commissioner, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaiya Petchpanya, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 7, announced the arrest of two major drug trafficking networks.
In the first case, Pol. Col. Ruthee Pandam, Deputy Commander of the MPB's Narcotics Suppression Division, and Pol. Col. Jakraphan Osotakan, Commander of Narcotics Suppression Division 2, arrested Jirot Phanurat, 46, charged with possession and distribution of a Category 1 narcotic (ice methamphetamine) for commercial purposes, violating laws due to its impact on public security and state stability. The evidence included 300 kilograms of ice, a 10-wheel truck license plate 72-4496 from Songkhla, and two mobile phones. The arrest occurred at a gas station on Bangna-Trad Road, Km.8, in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan Province.
The MPB's Narcotics Suppression Division received intelligence about ice methamphetamine being transported from Bangkok to the southern region. After identifying the truck details, officers intercepted it at the gas station at 1 a.m. on 23 Sep 2026 GMT+7, with Jirot driving. A search found 300 packets of ice methamphetamine concealed inside 15 rice sacks weighing a total of 300 kilograms, stacked in the truck bed. Upon interrogation, Jirot confessed he received the ice near Ram Inthra and was delivering it to Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. He had previously made two deliveries; this was the third. He was paid about 100,000 baht for the first trip and 200,000 baht for the second. Officers expanded investigations to capture drugs that had previously slipped through, and suspects were sent to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for prosecution.
In the second case, Pol. Col. Atsadawut Kwanmuang, Commander of Narcotics Suppression Division 7, along with officers from Narcotics Suppression Division 6, arrested Thanaphon "Art" Sueprasert, 30; Chaiporn "F" Anurak, 36; and Kittipol "Tee" Sodphiban, 33. They were charged with jointly possessing and distributing Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine or ice) without authorization for commercial purposes, causing public harm and threatening state security. Evidence seized included 219 kilograms of ice methamphetamine, a .38 caliber revolver with 12 rounds, arrested at an unnumbered house in Soi Thap Yao, Thap Yao subdistrict, Lat Krabang district, Bangkok.
Officers had received intelligence that a group of about 3-4 young Thai men involved in drug trafficking frequently gathered at the house. At night, these youths often led cars in convoys on motorcycles leaving the stash house, suggesting drug delivery activity. Since the house appeared not to be a residence but a drug storage site, Narcotics Suppression Division 7 conducted surveillance for several days. At 12:30 a.m. on 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, they observed youths arriving to transport drugs for delivery to customers. Officers raided the house, discovering 219 blocks of ice methamphetamine wrapped in tea bags inside plastic bags printed with the Playboy rabbit logo, all packed in multiple black bags, weighing a total of 219 kilograms. Upon interrogation, all suspects admitted they only served as couriers, receiving 1,000 baht per delivery. Additional charges were filed against Thanaphon for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. All were sent to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for prosecution.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam added that today's operations resulted in seizing 519 kilograms of ice methamphetamine. In total for September, the Metropolitan Police have seized about 2,000 kilograms. He ordered continuous enforcement and crackdowns on drug trafficking in Bangkok, in line with government and Royal Thai Police policies.
