Immigration Police Commander ordered further investigation after arresting a Chinese man overstaying 578 days in Thailand, who was found to be fleeing a fraud case involving over 200 million baht in China.
On 1 October 2026 at 12:00 hrs, the Immigration Office reported that Pol. Lt. Gen. Nopasilp Poonsawat, Immigration Police Commander, stated that under the directive of Police General Samran Nualma, Commissioner-General of Police, efforts are being accelerated to investigate and expand inquiries into foreigners violating laws, especially those possibly linked to transnational crime. Accordingly, Kanchanaburi Immigration was ordered to extend the investigation of a Chinese man overstaying 578 days, revealing he is listed on an INTERPOL Red Notice. Chinese authorities confirmed they still seek to prosecute him for major fraud.
The case traces back to 23 September 2026, when Kanchanaburi Immigration officers led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Songprod Sirisukha, Commander of Immigration Division 3, Pol. Col. Chinawut Tangwonglert, Deputy Commander of Immigration Division 3, and Pol. Col. Korn Somkhaney, Chief of Kanchanaburi Immigration, along with Si Sawat Police Station, investigated reports that Sun Wen, 33, a Chinese national, was causing disturbances at a hotel in Si Sawat District, Kanchanaburi Province.
It was found that he had overstayed in Thailand for 578 days, leading to his arrest under the law. Further checks by Kanchanaburi Immigration revealed he is a person wanted on an INTERPOL Red Notice for fraud charges by Chinese authorities.
The Red Notice details accuse the suspect of involvement in a scheme using forged documents to transfer ownership of real estate, which was then mortgaged to obtain loans. The network allegedly mortgaged six properties worth about 100 million yuan and defrauded loans exceeding 44 million yuan (approximately 200 million baht). Sun Wen reportedly gained benefits of over 30 million yuan before leaving China for Thailand on 16 August 2024.
Coordination with the Foreign Affairs Division confirmed the Red Notice status and received confirmation that Chinese authorities still seek Sun Wen for prosecution. The Red Notice orders tracking and arrest with a view to extradition.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Nopasilp added that Immigration Police have refused entry to over 81,000 foreigners from 1 October 2025 to date, averaging nearly 7,000 monthly, due to prohibited characteristics under Section 12 of the Immigration Act. "This is a new dimension for Immigration Police, using investigative work to screen foreigners, allowing good people in and keeping bad people out."
He emphasized that Police General Samran has ordered Immigration Police to intensify screening of foreigners who break laws and to thoroughly check backgrounds, especially those with warrants or links to transnational crime. Officials will take firm action against foreigners committing crimes in Thailand to ensure safety and confidence for citizens and tourists. Suspicious persons or activities can be reported to local police or Immigration Office at Chalermprakiat Building, 904 Moo 6, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi 11120, or contact local immigration offices or visit www.immigration.go.th.
