The Sutthisan police chief has ordered the formation of a fact-finding committee to report results within 15 days regarding the 'Sib Wern' who allowed a theft suspect to escape from the police station cell.
At Sutthisan Police Station at 16:00 on 1 Oct 2016, Pol. Col. Pornthep Chalermkiat, Chief of Sutthisan Police Station, revealed that Mr. Prinya Meephumru, 35, a theft suspect who broke the cell door lock before fleeing, is a detainee held under a criminal court order, case number Fa 26849/2016. Later, the criminal court ordered him to be held at the Sutthisan Police Station jail for 12 days starting from 27 Sep 2016. After this period, the suspect would be released unless the court issued other orders, under detention warrant 3237/2016.
Pol. Col. Pornthep said the incident occurred at 09:40 on 30 Sep. The suspect escaped from the detention room while Pol. Lt. Ekasak Promsuk, Deputy Superintendent (Traffic) at Sutthisan Police Station, who was on duty as 'Sib Wern', went to the bathroom. Upon returning, he found the detention room door open, called the suspect's name but received no response, and found the second-floor detention room's door lock had come undone. CCTV footage later showed the suspect had destroyed the door to escape. The commanding officer informed patrol and investigation units at Sutthisan Police Station to search and apprehend the suspect.
Pol. Col. Pornthep added that after the incident, he appointed a fact-finding committee led by Pol. Lt. Col. Hari Thepjakrin, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) at Sutthisan Police Station, to investigate and collect evidence. If evidence shows others were involved in the wrongdoing, they will be reported to the appointing authority for further action. The investigation must be completed within 15 days from the date of order acknowledgment.
