Authorities are urgently disposing of bombs thrown by attackers at the Bannang Sata Checkpoint base in Yala Province, which injured five personnel. They are now rushing to establish preventive measures.

According to reports, unknown attackers threw two unidentified bombs at the Bannang Sata Checkpoint base in Village No. 3, Bannang Sata Subdistrict, Bannang Sata District, Yala Province. One bomb exploded, injuring five personnel, while the other failed to detonate and awaits disposal. The incident occurred at approximately 18:45 on 15 October 2026.

The latest update on 16 October 2026: Pol. Col. Atthaphon Kulwongmanaso, Chief of Bannang Sata Police Station, along with Sulkifli Sanyakul, Bannang Sata District Chief, Veerachok Boonsawat, Senior District Officer, Chitsanupong Supmangsang, District Defense Officer, and military, police, and administrative officials inspected the scene. Initial findings showed damage from the first bomb in front of the volunteer staff quarters inside the base, with roof tiles shattered and four parked motorcycles damaged. The second bomb, found inside a staff residence, did not detonate. Bomb disposal teams have been called in to safely remove it and have cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access.

The attack resulted in injuries to five personnel: Sergeant Major Ibroheng Tingucheng suffered bleeding in the ear; Sergeant Major Harn Maseng was injured in the right leg; Sergeant Major Maroning Thayina experienced hearing loss and headaches; Sergeant Major Abdulbachae Jena had hearing impairment; and Sergeant Major Amri Todeng also sustained hearing loss.

Sergeant Major Amri Todeng recounted that at the time, he and six other personnel were inside the base residence preparing to eat when they suddenly heard a loud object strike the roof, breaking tiles everywhere, followed by an explosion. Everyone took cover and composed themselves before notifying their superiors. The second bomb fell about 10 meters away inside another residence but did not detonate. This base has been targeted with thrown bombs three times before; he was present at each incident and has served at the checkpoint for over ten years. This attack was the closest so far. He emphasized the need for increased caution and enhanced security equipment going forward.

Maj. Saudi Jasni, deputy leader of the Bannang Sata Checkpoint team, stated that as she was about to enter a meeting room at the headquarters, she heard the explosion and immediately radioed across districts, ordering personnel at the front and rear posts to respond. Initial reports indicated one injured person and three to four others experiencing hearing issues. Planned preventive measures include raising the height of the rear netting, installing lighting and CCTV cameras, and increasing patrol frequency. Morale among personnel remains high as they continue to volunteer fully to protect and serve the local community.
