A tragic incident occurred when a 2-year-old boy fell from an 8-story condominium in the Rama 2 area while his mother left the room to do laundry. Tha Kham Police Station gathered evidence and reviewed nearby CCTV footage to investigate.
At 17:00 on 17 Oct 2016, Police Lieutenant Thanakorn Thammaniron, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Tha Kham Police Station, received a report of a child fatality from a fall from height.
The incident took place at a condominium in the Rama 2 area. Officers arrived to inspect the scene together with forensic police, a forensic doctor from Siriraj Hospital, and rescue volunteers.
Also present were volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
The scene was an 8-story residential building. The victim, a 2-year-old boy (named A for anonymity), had head injuries and broken limbs. Rescue staff used a cardiac stimulator but were unsuccessful, and the boy later died.
Ms. Sichayawan (surname withheld), 38, the mother, sorrowfully stated that she left the room to take clothes to the laundry across the street. Before leaving, she saw her son sleeping. Shortly after she crossed the street, she heard someone shout, "A child has fallen!" She rushed back to find it was her son.
Officers collected evidence at the scene and reviewed nearby CCTV footage. Preliminary findings showed no one entered or exited the room except the mother. The foundation then transported the body to Siriraj Hospital for autopsy before relatives took it for religious ceremonies.
