Appeal Court Schedules Verdict Reading in Somrak Kamsing Case with 17-Year-Old Girl Defendant Expresses No Worry

The 4th Regional Appeal Court has scheduled the verdict reading in the case involving Somrak Kamsing and a 17-year-old girl. He expressed no worry, remaining confident that he did not engage in the behaviors or intentions alleged. He is proceeding with the legal process and is prepared to accept the court's decision.

At 09:00 on 20 Oct 2026, reporters at Khon Kaen Provincial Court reported that the 4th Regional Appeal Court scheduled the verdict reading for Somrak Kamsing, Thailand's first Olympic gold medalist boxer, who is a defendant in a case involving a 17-year-old girl. The lower court had previously issued its verdict, and Somrak appealed before the appeal court set the verdict reading for 20 Oct 2026.

This morning, media from various outlets gathered both outside the court fence and inside the courtroom to cover the event. When contacted by phone, Somrak said he came to court today with his lawyer and several supporters. He said this visit was to hear the appeal verdict. He remains calm and confident, believing he did not behave or intend as alleged. He is following the process in good faith and is ready to accept the outcome.

Somrak stated that since the case began, he has not communicated with the other party and does not know her current stance. He reiterated that he is not worried because he firmly believes he had no such intent. His children did not come to court due to filming commitments on a series.

Somrak expressed his belief that most Thai people can assess the situation fairly. Speaking as a man and athlete, he said he understands winning, losing, and forgiveness. If he is innocent, he will fight to prove it and proceed confidently through the legal process.

Reporters further noted that the case began when a 17-year-old girl from Kalasin province filed a complaint against Somrak and others after an incident around 04:30 on 10 Dec 2023, following a visit to a venue in Khon Kaen municipality. Somrak met with investigators and denied the allegations, stating he did not know the girl was 17 at the time.

Subsequently, the Khon Kaen provincial prosecutor charged Somrak and Pichet as defendants 1 and 2 with abduction of a minor aged over 15 but under 18 from parents or guardians for indecent purposes with the minor’s consent; jointly taking a person aged over 15 but under 18 for indecent purposes even with consent; attempted rape with violence; and indecent acts using violence against a person over 15. Both defendants denied the charges before the court proceedings began.

On 23 Jan 2025, the lower court sentenced Somrak to a total prison term of 4 years and 8 months, reduced by one-third due to his beneficial testimony, resulting in 2 years, 13 months, and 10 days imprisonment. The court also ordered compensation of 170,000 baht plus 5% annual interest. After the verdict, Somrak requested bail to appeal, and Khon Kaen Provincial Court granted bail at 300,000 baht.

The 4th Regional Appeal Court has scheduled the verdict reading for 20 Oct 2026. At the time of reporting, the verdict was awaited as Somrak was en route to the court. Reporters will provide updates as the situation develops.
