Cyber Police Arrest Scam Gang Targeting Retired Nurse, Posing as Comptroller Generals Department Officials, Defrauding Over 1.8 Million Baht

Cyber police arrested a gang that scammed a 64-year-old retired nurse by pretending to be officials from the Comptroller General's Department responsible for pension fund management, tricking her into transferring money and causing losses exceeding 1.8 million baht.

On 23 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Thinkorn Rangmat, Commander of the Cyber Crime Investigation Division, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Arut Saengjan, Deputy Commander, ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Kritach Bamrungrattanayot, Commander of Division 4, Pol. Col. Norawat Kamphilo, Deputy Commander of Division 4, Pol. Lt. Col. Phrompon Nitwiboon, Deputy Superintendent of the Intelligence Analysis Unit, Division 4, and other officers to launch an operation to dismantle a scam network that defrauded a retired female nurse of 1.8 million baht.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thinkorn Rangmat explained that in August, a 64-year-old retired female nurse from Tak province was contacted via phone by scammers claiming to be financial officers from the Comptroller General's Department. They said they would assist in managing pension funds from a hospital in Tak where the victim had worked. They instructed her to add a Line account and provide all her bank account details, claiming these were needed for verification by the department.

They then tricked the victim into transferring money from her own bank accounts to verify the remaining balance, promising to return the funds after the verification. The victim believed them and transferred money three times, totaling 1,870,000 baht. Afterwards, the scammers disappeared and could no longer be contacted, prompting the victim to realize she had been defrauded and report the case to cyber police.

The Division 4 investigation team traced the money transfers, discovering that the funds were moved through multiple accounts. They gathered evidence and obtained court warrants to arrest eight individuals involved in the network. So far, three suspects have been arrested: Mr. Phutthapong Tujinda, 53, from Phetchaburi province, identified by the Tak Provincial Court warrant No. 171/2569 as the mastermind who withdrew money, arrested at his home in Kaeng Krachan district;...

Mr. Sukhum Hanpratum, 50, from Samut Prakan province, also identified in Tak court warrant No. 170/2569 as a money withdrawer, arrested at his home in Kaeng Krachan district; and Ms. Supattra Hanpratum, 21, from Samut Prakan, identified in warrant No. 174/2569 as a money withdrawer, arrested in the Srinakarin area of Bangkok. Authorities also seized six bank passbooks as evidence.

The Cyber Crime Division Commander added that one suspect, Mr. Supachai Chongjintanagan, 31, from Ubon Ratchathani province, has voluntarily surrendered. The remaining four suspects are still being pursued. Initial interrogations revealed that some suspects confessed while others denied the charges.

They are being prosecuted for supporting others in fraud by impersonation, assisting in introducing distorted or false computer data likely to cause damage to others, and allowing the use of bank accounts without intent for personal or related business use, knowing or having reason to believe these accounts would be used in technology-related crimes or other criminal offenses.
