Man in Bueng Kan Attacks Mother with Machete, Severely Injures Her Uncle Killed While Trying to Help

In Bueng Kan, a man went into a frenzy and attacked his own mother with a machete, severely injuring her. His uncle witnessed the event and was fatally wounded when he tried to intervene. The suspect is known to have a history of drug addiction and mental illness.

At 09:30 on 23 Oct 2026, Police Lieutenant Suphot Yangkhan, deputy investigator at Ho Kham Police Station in Mueang Bueng Kan District, received a report of a man violently assaulting his mother and a neighbor, resulting in one death in Ban Phon Paeng, Village 9, Kai Si Subdistrict. He notified his superiors and coordinated with Police Colonel Arun Raksat, Chief of Ho Kham Police Station, along with other officers, to dispatch patrol units to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found Mr. Kowit Aphaiso, 56, the village headman of Phon Paeng, together with military personnel from the Surasakmontri Task Force and local residents, had already subdued the suspect. The suspect was identified as Mr. Anucha, 26. The police promptly took him into custody and transported him to Ho Kham Police Station.

The injured party, Mrs. Nuay, 53, the suspect’s mother, had been slashed in the face and neck with a machete and was critically wounded. Relatives and villagers urgently transported her to Bueng Kan Hospital for emergency treatment.

Opposite the house, authorities found the body of Mr. Tuy, 69, the homeowner, who was Mrs. Nuay’s older brother and the suspect’s uncle. He was lying face-up in a pool of blood with severe wounds to his neck and face from a bladed weapon, nearly decapitated. Nearby were a three-wheeled cart and a fallen motorcycle. Police forensic officers from Bueng Kan Province and hospital medical examiners were summoned to conduct an autopsy.

Later, Police Colonel Chitsanupong Prommeedet, Deputy Commander of Bueng Kan Provincial Police, closely followed the case. Mrs. Nooklai, 59, wife of the deceased, and her daughter who witnessed the event recounted that earlier that morning, the suspect approached his mother asking for money, which she refused. Mrs. Nuay sat at the table outside the house when the suspect, holding a machete, suddenly attacked, striking her shoulder and slashing her neck. Mr. Tuy, watering plants nearby, heard his sister’s cries and rushed to help, but during the struggle, the suspect fatally wounded him with the machete to the neck and face.

Village headman Mr. Kowit revealed that the suspect had a history of drug use and mental illness and had undergone treatment several times. Normally, he supported himself by catching and selling crabs and fish and did not usually cause trouble. However, the previous day he showed abnormal behavior, but his family did not notify the police or village authorities until the tragic event occurred that morning.

The suspect’s father stated that his son usually spoke calmly and went about catching crabs and fish as usual without violent behavior. But the previous night, the son’s condition deteriorated. That morning, the father found two empty bottles of white liquor in his son’s bedroom and suspects alcohol consumption triggered the violent outburst.

Initially, forensic police carefully collected DNA and other evidence at the scene before releasing the deceased’s body to relatives for funeral rites. The suspect remains in custody at Ho Kham Police Station for detailed interrogation and will face legal proceedings accordingly.
