In Nakhon Si Thammarat, the provincial special administrative task force raided an illegal hi-lo gambling den, arresting 14 gamblers. A woman on the phone loudly protested, claiming she had settled matters with officials and questioned why arrests were still made. It remains unclear with which agency she claimed to have settled.
On 24 October 2026, reporters reported that on the evening of 22 October 2026, Mr. Wirachai Chumkaew, the district chief of Chao Uat, Nakhon Si Thammarat, along with Mr. Nattawat Promnuan, the provincial prevention officer, and Police Colonel Choti Phetnongchum, the chief of Chao Uat Police Station, ordered the provincial special administrative task force led by Lieutenant Supachok Phraempoon, commander of the provincial volunteer company, to inspect a house in Village 2, Khao Prathong Subdistrict, Chao Uat District, following complaints of ongoing illegal hi-lo gambling there.
Officials launched a surprise raid and surrounded the house, finding many male and female gamblers playing hi-lo. They arrested 14 people and some others escaped. Confiscated evidence included one hi-lo betting board, one dice container set, six dice, one computer for CCTV recording, three CCTV cameras, and some cash.
During the arrest, a woman made a phone call to officials from an agency, stating, “I have already settled with the relevant parties, so why are you still making arrests?”
One suspect, believed to be the homeowner, said she knew the officials and had already settled matters, trying to negotiate with the arresting officers but failed. The officials then detained all 14 gamblers and seized the evidence, handing them to Chao Uat Police for prosecution. The suspects numbered 1 to 14 were charged with illegal gambling (hi-lo) for unlawful gain, and suspect number 1 was additionally charged with organizing gambling to gain direct and indirect benefit.
