Bum Panadda may face imprisonment as she has not yet filed for bail; her husband Got Athip has filed for bail alone. The court is currently reviewing the matter.,
On 7 Nov 2016, reports stated that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) under Division 4 of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) detained Bum Panadda Wongpudi, chairperson of the Ong Tum Dee Foundation, under Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 6491/2016 dated 5 Nov 2016. She is charged with jointly defrauding the public, jointly inputting distorted or false computer data likely to cause damage to the public, and conspiring with two or more persons to commit money laundering.
Also, Mr. Athip Ananthawan, or Got, Bum Panadda’s husband, was arrested under Criminal Court warrant No. 6492/2016 dated 5 Nov 2016, charged with conspiring with two or more persons to commit money laundering and committing money laundering due to this conspiracy. Both were remanded at the Criminal Court for the first detention period as the investigation was incomplete.
At the end of the petition, investigators opposed bail due to the large amount of damage involved and concerns that the suspects might flee or tamper with evidence.
At 13:00, after officials brought Bum Panadda and Athip to the Criminal Court for detention earlier that morning, only Athip submitted a bail petition with collateral during the day. The court is currently considering his bail request.
Meanwhile, as of 13:00, Bum Panadda had not submitted any bail request. If no bail petition is filed, correctional officers will transfer her to the Central Women’s Correctional Institution.
Later at 14:19, reporters were informed that Bum Panadda chose not to file a bail request at this stage. The court is preparing a detention order for correctional officers to transfer her to the Central Women’s Correctional Institution. Regarding Athip’s bail petition, after consideration, the court denied his bail request and issued a detention order for correctional officers to transfer him to the Bangkok Remand Prison.
